Description
The dataset provides background data (occurrence records based on herbarium specimens and human observations) for mapping the distribution of alien plants in Kyrgyzstan. Besides personal observations, the main sources for the dataset were herbarium collections (FRU, LE, MW, TASH), citizen science resources (iNaturalist, Plantarium) and floristic literature.
All records have been taxonomically evaluated by the authors. Georeferences are provided ad hoc on the basis of historical and current maps when missing in the original source.
The current dataset is developing and therefore incomplete. At present it includes a set of 25 species published in Contributions 1-3 (Biodiversity Data Journal). Other species will be added with further publications.

The project ultimately aims at producing a comprehensive overview and analysis of plant invasions in Kyrgyzstan.
Titre | Alien plants of Kyrgyzstan |

Identifiant | Alien_plants_of_Kyrgyzstan |
Financement | This work has received no external funding. |
Description du domaine d'étude / de recherche | The study covers the whole territory of Kyrgyzstan, located in Central Asia. This territory is predominantly high mountainous, situated in the area with arid continental climates. |
Description du design | The dataset includes all localities of non-native vascular plants, which were found in spontaneous occurrences (excluding the cases of residence because of intentional introduction). The localities were traced from main herbarium collections (FRU, LE, MW, TASH), citizen-science resources providing documented observations (iNaturalist, Plantarium), and reliable observations traced from published literature, as well as from personal observations of the authors. The dataset is under construction, and more species will be added in the future as the data collection proceeds. |

Méthodes d'échantillonnage
The dataset is compiled from occurrences documented by herbarium specimens and photographs. In each case the taxonomic identity has been verified or established by the authors. Undocumented observations were included when originated from the authors or traced from reliable published sources. Georeferencing is original when available, or provided by the authors with the utmost accuracy possible using the historical paper maps and contemporary digital mapping resources (Google Maps as a reference); elevation and coordinate uncertainty is estimated individually in each case. All coordinates were converted into WGS84 datum. The nomenclature is not based on any single source but compiled by the first author from a variety of phylogenetic, taxonomic and nomenclatural sources.
Etendue de l'étude | The dataset contains information on the distribution of alien plants in Kyrgyzstan. It covers all available data, including legacy and ongoing research, and is open for regular updates. |
---|---|
Contrôle qualité | The taxonomic identity and geographical location of each record have been assessed by the authors on case by case basis, and corrected when necessary. The original scripts of locality data are stored along with the interpreted information. |
Description des étapes de la méthode:
- The floristic checklist was screened and a residence status (native or alien) was established for each species.
- Distributional data were collected for each alien species from herbarium collections, citizen-science resources and literature.
- Each record was evaluated taxonomically.
- The locality data was processed for each record and structured according to the Darwin Core format.
- The period and pathway of introduction were established or inferred for each case, and the resulting information was compiled for a synopsis of alien plants of Kyrgyzstan (published in installments in Biodiversity Data Journal).
